As a physician healthcare executive based on my expertise, management of health facilities should be based on the ownership and primary objectives of the organisations.
Gov. or not for profit and for profit are two ownership structures.The primary objective of Gov. / Not for profit organisations is to provide quality care services to the population; whereas along with this creating financial value for investing stakeholders is the primary objective for private for profit organisations.
In Gov. / Not for profit facilities finance can be sourced or is supported from various resources, whereas private for profit facilities are supported by investing stakeholders, thereby limiting the financial resources. Therefore along with providing quality health care service, financial returns including revenue and profitability to be balanced to safeguard the interests of the investing stakeholders and for healthy survival of the projects.
